The Team Lead, Medical Science Liaisons (Director/Sr. Director) is a field-based, external customer-facing member of the Medical Affairs leadership team.

The Team Lead will guide, manage, and support the US MSL field team. S/he will closely align with the VP of Medical Affairs and Field Medical Alignment Director to develop and implement the field medical execution plan for the Company’s MSL field team. 

This leader plays a crucial role in managing the development and maintenance of strong MSL professional relationships with key external scientific, medical, and managed market stakeholders as they pertain to the Company’s product and clinical development/research portfolio as well as oncology precision medicine initiatives. 

This is a remote position from a home‐based office with expectations for travel. The Team Lead will report to the VP of Medical Affairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of field-based MSLs to ensure the development and implementation of compliant best practices, external stakeholder interactions, scientific/clinical exchange, and MSL policies are in line with all legal, regulatory, and company guidelines.
  • Align and collaborate with key internal stakeholders to develop and execute the Company’s field medical external engagement and education strategies.
  • In collaboration with the Field Medical Alignment Director, develop and implement ongoing MSL training plans to ensure continued expertise in the Company’s product portfolio and clinical development/research programs, current and emerging biomarker/molecular diagnostics landscape, disease state application, and oncology precision medicine payer/reimbursement landscape.
  • Support high-quality scientific and clinical data presentations to external stakeholders in various venues, such as tumor boards, advisory boards, and investigator meetings, to enhance molecular diagnostics knowledge and applications as well as the Company’s scientific and clinical program awareness.
  • Ensure compliant field medical support to the Clinical Operations Team for contracted investigators and alliance partners part of ongoing clinical trials, investigator-initiated trials/research, and registries consistent with the company objectives, and legal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure compliant medical support of commercial, marketing, and payer/market access teams in line with company objectives, and legal and regulatory guidelines.
  • In collaboration with the Field Medical Alignment Director, identify key congresses that align with Medical Affairs priorities.
  • Lead MSL team at national and regional scientific and medical meetings including, but not limited to, development of congress playbooks, attending key scientific/clinical presentations, staffing medical affairs booths, gathering competitive intelligence, and developing pre- and post‐congress training/debrief activities and executive summaries.
  • In collaboration with the Field Medical Alignment Director, develop and maintain key field listening priorities for the MSL team.
  • In collaboration with the Field Medical Alignment Director, generate monthly engagement metrics and insight reports and present a quarterly overview to cross-functional leadership teams to inform overall strategy.
  • Identify key field deliverables, insights,, and metrics that demonstrate the value of the MSL organization and communicate with the Company’s leadership team on a regular basis.
  • Track and provide quantitative and qualitative data from MSL field activities that demonstrate external stakeholder impact on the broader organization and ensure key performance indicators are consistently and effectively met.
  • Review and support MSL territory plans and oversee effective execution.
  • Provide field leadership support for the MSL team during key external KDM engagements.
  • Provide appropriate and timely performance management (field coaching, feedback, mentorship, and career development) for MSL field team.
  • Responsible for managing the review and approval of MSL team expense reports.
  • Support other projects and activities as requested by the Company’s leadership teams.
  • Follow the Company’s policies and procedures at all times.

Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • An advanced scientific or medical degree is required, such as a PhD, MD, DO, or PharmD.
  • 5+ years of relevant translational/clinical research experience with industry Medical Affairs experience supporting clinical trial sites as well as scientific/medical communication and education activities within academic medical centers, NCI/NCCN cancer centers, IDNs, and managed market organizations.
  •  3+ years of leading a field medical team with a proven ability to effectively lead, motivate, coach, and manage field-based scientific/medical professionals.
  • Thorough knowledge and expertise in molecular diagnostics and oncology precision medicine are required.
  • Demonstrated strategic agility to manage multiple workstreams and responsibilities in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
